Becoming a first-time buyer with Denbury Homes

Melissa Canham shares her excitement about getting on the first rung of the property ladder and why she chose a Denbury Homes home.

In April 2024, Melissa Canham, a marketing manager for a fintech firm, decided it was the right time to move out of her parents’ house and take her first steps onto the property ladder. As a first-time buyer, Melissa sought a location close to family and friends, with nearby shops yet a peaceful village feel. When she spotted the Denbury Homes development boards at the Barleyfields site in the charming Suffolk village of Debenham, she knew she had found the perfect place.

Melissa said: “From the moment I saw the boards go up, I knew this was the perfect location for me. Having a garden was a priority, and the Barleyfields development offered plenty of space, making it an ideal fit. I did get a chance to step inside the show home, though I didn’t have a full look around, but I still felt confident in my decision because the home ticked so many boxes.”

Melissa chose a two-bedroom terrace house, known as The Chaffinch. This thoughtfully designed home features an open-plan kitchen and living/dining area that overlooks the garden, along with a downstairs WC. Upstairs, the master bedroom boasts an ensuite shower room and built-in wardrobes, creating a comfortable retreat. The second bedroom, which Melissa uses as a study for working from home, also includes a built-in wardrobe and is complemented by a family bathroom.

“I did view a few older properties before making my decision, but I knew I wanted to avoid the need for redecorating or unexpected maintenance. From the start, Denbury Homes’ sales consultant was incredibly helpful. They guided me through the buying process, explained everything clearly, and even arranged access so I could measure up for furniture and soft furnishings before moving in.”

“I decided to purchase my home in February 2024, and it was nearly complete, apart from the flooring, which I was able to choose. From the moment I put in my offer to receiving my keys, the process took just 6-8 weeks. Denbury Homes supported me throughout, and I also used their recommended conveyancing service, which made the experience even simpler.”

“I’ve met some wonderful neighbours and am loving the peace and tranquillity of the development – it’s been such a great place to settle in.”

Rianna Catling, Sales and Marketing Executive at Denbury Homes, said: “It has been a pleasure to hear about Melissa’s property journey. We take great pride in our customer care and love supporting first-time buyers as they move into their dream homes. Melissa’s enthusiasm and excitement about her new home is exactly why we do what we do – helping people find a place they truly love.”
