Current vacancies

An opportunity has arisen to join 5* regional house builder Denbury Homes as a Trainee Site Manager. We are currently developing across multiple locations within the East of England, with this particular role initially based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
Reporting directly to the Senior Site Manager/Site Manager/Assistant Site Manager you will be a key supporting figure for the team. Your role will include assisting in all aspects of the project – from Health and Safety, programming, quality control and compliance, procurement, stock
control, site housekeeping, customer care and administrative duties. To support the role, we will be looking at putting the successful candidate through their NVQ Level 4 Supervision; as well as carrying out other relevant courses- including SMSTS, SJA first aid training and various NHBC trade and technical courses.

Desirable skills, competencies and requirements
– GSCE Maths and English – Grade C/4
– A Levels desirable
– Full UK driving licence
– Some construction knowledge would be beneficial

This is a great opportunity for someone wishing to start their Site Management career for a local privately owned housebuilder with ambitious growth plans. The routes of progression are excellent for the right candidate with the right attitude and ambitions to grow and develop.
We are looking for an immediate start. Despite the role being initially based in Bury St Edmunds; the role could/would involve travelling to other site locations within our patch; which primarily cover Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire.

Candidate Requirements

  • A relevant design/architectural qualification, preferred.
  • At least five years experience of working either for, or alongside, residential developers, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Autocad, essential, with supplementary skills in Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office, preferred.
  • Proven track record in designing residential schemes, with a sound understanding of urban design, good placemaking principles and creating communities through layout design.
  • Understanding of engineering principles which underpin a layout.
  • Experience of the production of drawing packs required for outline, reserved matters and full planning applications.
  • Good knowledge of the Company’s operational area being Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire, preferred.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, drawing upon the knowledge of colleagues in a multi-disciplined environment.
  • An ability to manage your individual workload and be self-motivated in order to meet agreed project timescales.
  • The ability to recognise problems and deal with them in an efficient and speedy manner.
  • Understanding of architectural design and the ability to design elevations away from standard house types.

Job responsibilities

  • Prepare architectural drawings to assist with RIBA stages 0-3. This is inclusive of, but not exclusive to;
  • Feasibility Schemes for Land Acquisition
  • Reserved matters/full application layouts
  • Planning application drawing packs to include house types, street scenes/perspectives, material specifications and any required additional illustrative material.
  • Produce design work with consideration of planning policy, commercial factors, technical constraints and sales opportunities.
  • Attend pre-application meetings and any other relevant meetings of engagement with local planning authorities.
  • Co-ordinate and manage external consultants as appropriate, including landscape architects and arboriculturists, alongside the management of invoices, purchase orders, appointment documents for the necessary consultants.
  • Keeping up-to-date with changing building regulations and planning practice relating to design.
  • Provide suitable handover of projects to the technical team at the conclusion of RIBA Stage Three.
  • Attend site visits as required.

This role is based within the Land and Development Team which focuses on acquiring land in Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Lincolnshire, and Bedfordshire.  The team manage all aspects of the pre-development process including Land, Planning, Design, Engineering and Technical.   You will be an integral part of this team and act as a crucial link between Construction and Land.

Responsible To

  • Head of Land

Scope of Work

  • Preparing land cost appraisals and estimate costs for new land opportunities.
  • Prepare and complete site-specific take offs to inform the land appraisals, following the issue of working drawings.
  • Liaise with the Commercial/Technical/Engineering teams to consider alternative site strategies.
  • Ability to understand and analyse documentation from planning and technical to inform land appraisals.
  • Prepare relevant and reliable forecasts which will be presented to the wider company.
  • Ability to cashflow developments based on anticipated start dates in order to accurately measure ROCE.
  • Ability to create and present an overview of completed land appraisal to the Land Director prior to bid submissions.
  • Monitoring latest costs and technologies with the Commercial and Technical teams accordingly.
  • Business plan cashflow reviews.

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous construction experience with at least 3 years in the sector.
  • In-depth understanding of Microsoft Excel.
  • Good knowledge of the Company’s operational area being Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire preferred.
  • COINS experience beneficial but not essential.
  • Ability to work independently, to be self-motivated and well organised.
  • Good communication skills for dealing with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • The ability to recognise problems and deal with them in an efficient and speedy manner.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and Word.
