Denbury Homes has donated more than 230 chocolate Easter eggs to help people in need of a little treat this Easter.
The Denbury Homes team collected the eggs for Newmarket Open Door, which is close to its Farriers Walk development in Cheveley, Cambridgeshire. Head office staff donations were matched by the company to deliver a truly egg-ceptional total!
Newmarket Open Door runs a foodbank for those in need, as well as offering supported housing for young adults. Newmarket Open Door has seen a significant rise in demand for emergency food supplies as many in the area feel the impact of the cost-of-living crisis. The donation means that children and families can enjoy a bit of Easter excitement amidst financial challenges.
“In recent years, we have witnessed a growing number of individuals and families in Newmarket facing significant financial hardship, with many struggling to meet their basic needs,” said Tracey Dove, Administrator and Accommodation Manager at Newmarket Open Door. “We were down to our last egg and didn’t have any more to give out prior to Easter so we are sincerely grateful to Denbury Homes for their generous donation. This thoughtful contribution will enable many families, who might otherwise have been unable, to enjoy a little treat this Easter.”
Joshua Hopkins, Managing Director of Denbury Homes added: “It was lovely to deliver the Easter eggs today and meet some of the volunteers. At Denbury Homes, we believe in supporting the communities in which we build. We recognise the challenges many families are currently facing and hope our contribution will help make Easter a little brighter for them.”
Newmarket Open Door runs the foodbank from its distribution centre in Unit 12, Craven Way, Newmarket. Those in need can obtain a referral from a health or social care agency, through Citizens Advice, the Job Centre, the council, or any other referral agency. They can then make an appointment to visit the foodbank and collect enough food for up to a week.
In addition to the foodbank, Newmarket Open Door also runs a weekly pop-up shop in the Catholic Church Parish Centre, Exeter Road, Newmarket. This self-referral service is open to anyone in need. For £2, users can visit the shop and select a bag full of items including tinned goods, fresh fruit, meat, bread and toiletries. Between the two services, Newmarket Open Door is supporting around 50 households a week.
Joshua continued: “Newmarket Open Door does vital work in the local area, and we are pleased to support their efforts during this important time of year. We hope this small gesture brings a bit of joy to families this Easter.”
